Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William L. "Bill" Dunkle, who passed away Jan. 1, 2014 and her three sons; Michael, Davis and Brian Dunkle. As a professional hair stylist, Shirley worked in her own salon in Vernon, CT for many years. She loved gardening and sewing and was meticulous in everything she did. Her patience for fine detail was both skilled and extraordinary and her artistic eye for details was amazing! For example one time she created a face of Santa Claus that had eyelashes so detailed you could count every lash! That took both talent and patience, traits that she had plenty of. A perfect day for her would have been gardening in the morning with her flowers, having lunch with a friend and sewing a project of her choice, then making dinner for her family that always included a home baked dessert! There were three of us; my sister, my brother and myself. My brother passed away at the age of 61 and leaves his wife Patty, a son Timothy and a daughter Jody. Shirley is also survived by a sister, Catherine Lerch, brother-in-law Grant Lerch and a niece Christina Lerch.
