SKCS Gabriel Aviles, Jr., USN (ret), 82, of Homosassa, Florida, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at HPH Hospice Care Center in Lecanto, Florida. A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Gabriel was born March 3, 1937 to Gabriel, Sr. and Rosa (Rodriguez) Aviles, one of five children. Gabriel served his country proudly and honorably in the United States Navy for nearly 33 years as a storekeeper and attained the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He moved to Homosassa in 2007 from Sanford, Florida and loved sports, especially golf and baseball, especially the Tampa Bay Rays. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife Lydia Aviles and is survived by his four children: Edwin Aviles of Homosassa, FL; Elizabeth White (husband William), Homosassa, Florida; Gabriel Aviles III (wife Nicole), Virginia and Eddie Aviles (wife Tara), Fort Lauderdale; his four siblings: Enrique Aviles, Kissimmee, FL; Sara Aviles, Plantation, FL; Iris Aviles, Pembroke Pines, FL and Rosa Ruiz, Kissimmee, FL; seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Friends will be received on Friday, March 6, 2020 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, Florida.
