Vernon L. “Vern” Downey, 80, of Homosassa, Fla., passed away April 2, 2013, at Oak Hill Hospital, Brooksville. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he was born March 23, 1933, to Horace and Pauline (Rheim) Downey, one of four children. Mr. Downey was a lifelong manufacturer and his positions held included line supervisor for Magnavox Corp., Greeneville, Tenn., and also production foreman for Rockwell International of Richardson, Texas. He moved to Homosassa in 1993 from Galion, Ohio. Vern, as he was known to many, was a U.S. Army veteran discharged in 1961 and attended First United Methodist Church of Homosassa. He loved to travel and play golf.
Mr. Downey is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty J. Downey, Homosassa; and sister, Audrey (husband Roy) Epperson, White Oak, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Donald.
A memorial service of remembrance will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, Homosassa, with Pastor Kip Younger officiating.
