

Virginia L. McCalla, 97, of Inverness, FL, passed away on Tues., July 15, 2025 at her home. A native of Cheshire, OH, she was born Feb. 9, 1928 to Roy and Frances (King) McCarty, one of five children. Virginia, a lifelong homemaker and also a nurse, served her country proudly for two years in WWII as a U.S. Army Nurse Cadet. Viriginia’s perfect day would most likely involve caring for her flowers, both inside and outside; cooking and sewing. Virginia was a former 4H Leader and taught sewing, and was an accomplished oil painter, with many of her paintings hanging in her home. Mrs. McCalla was Christian, loved Christmas and especially cardinal birds. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, EMC Lewis F. McCalla, USN (RET), on March 1, 2020; her four siblings; Robert, Joann; Lee and Nancy; a grandchild, Rodney, and a son-in-law, Dick Wilder. She is survived by her five children: Lynn Wilder, Lecanto, FL; Ann Johnson, Inverness, FL; Dick McCalla (wife Mary Bea), Gallipolis, OH; Lee McCalla (wife Fran), Hernando, FL and Mike McCalla (wife Kathy), also of Gallipolis, OH; grandchildren Mitzi, Gina, Donna, Dina, Shane, Beth Ann, T.Jaye, Katie, Chastity, Stacy and Jodie; seventeen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Family and friends will be received on Sat., July 19, 2025 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Macrini-Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, FL, where a Celebration of Life will commence at 12:00 Noon with Pastor John Meeks officiating. Committal service will follow on Monday, July 21, 2025 at 10:30 A.M. at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Those wishing to follow to the cemetery are asked to be at Macrini-Wilder Funeral Home on Monday, July 21st at 9:00 AM.
