Wallace Gene McGee Sr.

Wallace Gene McGee, Sr., 91, of Homosassa, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at The Royal Dalton House in Homosassa under the care of VITAS Hospice. A native of Carthage, Mississippi, he was born on May 1, 1935, to his parents, Ira and Ruby.

Known simply as "Gene" to family and friends, he proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Senior Master Sergeant before retiring from MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. Following his military retirement, Gene served as Supervisor of Satellite Operations for GTE Satellite Corporation, working in both Grand Junction, Colorado, and Crystal River, Florida. Together with his wife, Burnice, he built a life centered on faith, family, and love.

Gene loved to fish and garden. Time on the water was his happy place, and he was never more content than sitting quietly in a johnboat with a cane pole over a brim bed. He also possessed an incredible green thumb and delighted in sharing the bounty of his backyard garden with friends, neighbors, and family.

Gene truly had open arms and a loving heart for everyone he met. He worked hard, kept his word, lived with humility, and found happiness in life's simple pleasures.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his son, Michael, and brothers, Melvin, and Waymond. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Burnice; his son, Wallace "Gene" McGee, Jr. (Jennifer); grandchildren Savannah Liparito (Nick), Travis McGee, Mikayla Lucena, and Jaxson Lucena; great-grandchildren Kinsley and Easton Liparito; and sister-in-law Dot McGee.

His family finds comfort knowing that his legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the family he cherished, and the countless lives he quietly touched.

Friends will be received on Saturday, July 11, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Macrini-Wilder Funeral Home, 4890 South Suncoast Blvd., Homosassa, Florida, where a Celebration of Life will follow at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Pastor Ernie Post of First United Methodist Church of Homosassa. A private interment for family members will follow at Fountains Memorial Park Cemetery in Homosassa, where military honors will be rendered. Services are entrusted to Macrini-Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, Florida.
