William E. "Bill" Hess, Jr., 76, of Homosassa, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the twilight hours on July 31, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Lucille, of 49 years; just shy of their Golden Anniversary; his daughter Christen Ann Capella and her husband Domenic, with their two children Eston and Sophia and daughter Kelly Ann Rojas Suarez and her husband Yamil and their son Aiden. Other surviving family includes Bill's brother, Wayne Hess and his wife Barbara. Bill was born May 12, 1945 in Long Branch, New Jersey, the son of William, Sr. and Mildred (Caha) Hess, one of two children. He lived in the Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey until he was six years old, before moving to Hillside, New Jersey. He graduated from NJIT Newark (New Jersey Institute of Technology) with a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering and he later attended Rutgers University in New Jersey, where he received a Master's Degree in Computer Engineering. Later, after 35 dedicated years of a successful career, Bill retired from Bell Telephone Laboratories, Murray Hill, New Jersey, as a Member of Technical Staff, where he worked in research and development and holds seven patents. Bill had a love of cars and enjoyed much time with his father figuring out the mechanics of cars. He always wanted to discover how things worked and had the ability to figure out most anything! Other hobbies included boating, horseback riding, gymnastics, dance and travel. As a young boy he traveled across the U.S. twice with his family. Camping and RVing became another hobby, and he wanted to show his new wife, Lucy, the beautiful United States National Parks. He later traveled four more times across the U.S.A. with his own family. Bill and Lucy decided to retire in sunny Florida and enjoyed exploring its stunning coastline. Throughout his life, his enjoyment stemmed from family togetherness. He was very active with the local YMCA in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, as a volunteer with the Indian Princess Program with both daughters. He was also active in his community association as Presdent in Florida, as well as the Touch of Class Corvette Club and was a member of Elks. Towards retirement, Bill and Lucy enjoyed cruising throughout Europe and the Caribbean, which included 48 cruises. Bill was a very special person who will be missed dearly and will always be our hero. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following agencies, which our family has supported over the years; American Parkinson's Disease Association at [email protected] or the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org and please notify Bill's family that you have done so.
