William Paul "Bill" Mears Jr.

William Paul Mears, Jr., 82, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026 in Brooksville, FL. A native of Darby, PA, he was born January 20, 1944, the only child to William Paul Mears and Grace Ione (Shriver) Mears. Bill, as he was known to everyone, grew up with a special interest in cars. He was very interested in watching NASCAR, attending car shows, touring racetracks, and maintaining his own cars. If he got you in his shed where he had all the license plates for his past cars, he would keep you there while he waxed poetic about the different cars he owned during his life. Bill, along with his beloved wife of 40 years, Edith (known to many as Edie), moved to Homosassa in 2015 from Kennett Square, PA. He was a faithful and devoted member of both Moose International and the Sugarmill Woods Crime Watch and was of the Methodist faith. He and Edie loved traveling throughout the United States of America. There are very few states that were missed. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. For many years, he was a supervisor at Gulf Oil Company, which later became Chevron from where he retired. He was very handy with his tools and spent much time repairing and refinishing. Bill was much loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife of 40 years, Edith (Thomas) Mears, Mr. Mears is survived by his children Janice L. Baker; William Paul Mears III (wife Cynthia), Folsom, PA and Robert Glen Mears (wife Rene), Coatesville, PA; stepchildren Faith Talnack, Phoenixville, PA and Robert Talnack (wife Mary Pat), Chester Springs, PA; grandchildren Grace Ione Baker, Allison Mears-Hench (husband Kyle), West Chester, PA; Melissa Mears Darrah (husband Sean), Stevens, PA; Matthew Paul Mears (wife Mikaela), Exton, PA; Abigail Elisabeth Mears, Folsom, PA; Joseph Mears, Coatesville, PA; Molly, Aubrey and Ashley Talnack, all of Chester Springs, PA; great grandchildren Olivia, Liam, Connor and Patrick Mears; stepsister Nancy Mercer Sullivan (husband Dave), Homosassa, FL and stepbrother John Mercer (wife June), Seattle, WA.
