SFC (Ret.) Adelino Conrad Vares peacefully passed away in Honolulu, HI at the age of 78 on November 20, 2020 surrounded by his wife and family.
Born to Lei (Kiakona) and Adelino Souza Vares on June 16, 1942, in Paia, Maui, “Chubby” or “Big V” as some called him, was a Vietnam Veteran and served 42 years in the U.S. Army in Japan and the Pacific and the Hawaii Army National Guard. He also retired from the Hawaiian Telephone Company, and later worked with Verizon Federal. He is a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus Wahiawa Chapter.
He will be remembered for his hard work, dedication, and service, as well as his warm, loving nature and unstoppable, infectious laugh.
He is survived by his wife Carlene Vares; four daughters, Annette Tanner, Suzanne Vares-Lum, Cherie Vares, Jamie Lei Chinen; seven Grandchildren, Brandon Knight, Shane Knight, Max Escobar, Diana Vares-Lum, Connie Vares-Lum, Hiroko Kamioka, Conner Chinen; and Great Grandchild Max Jr.
The Celebration of Life is arranged by Borthwick Mortuary and planned for December 22. Please contact the family for live streaming information.
