Dear Naty and family:  What a wonderful life your husband and father had with you all by his side.  Al Lagaso was a pillar in the United Methodist community. He leaves a legacy of love, music and service.  He was a faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ.  He will be missed.  Take time to celebrate and remember as well as to grieve.  "Without tears the heart cannot have rainbows."

Dear Naty and Family,
My deepest condolences to you and al the family.  I was so shocked to hear of Al's passing. I enjoyed working with him at Campbell High.  He livened up our parties and meetings with his singing and music.  He would tease me by singing "Glory, glory, hallelujah" every time he saw me.  He is singing and playing his music with the angels now.

Dear Lagaso Family and Torres Clan, I am sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

IF you ask me to name a person who had a significant influence in my life growing up, I have to say Mr. Lagaso was the person to me.   From 1976 to 1979, he was my mentor and advisor in his role as activities coordinator at James Campbell High School.   He was a man of great patience and quiet leadership.  He was someone who gently guided and was never forceful in his advising.  He was an empathetic listener and diplomatic in his words of advice.  He modeled for me how to have conviction and passion in whatever I did.  He was a teacher and role model to those of us who ventured into student government at Campbell at that time.  I am sure it was a challenge to work with a bunch of teenagers trying to be “organized” and serious about school spirit, pep rallies, organizing school dances and proms, creating clubs and representing the best of student leadership.
Mr. Lagaso taught many of us to think through our decisions, to believe in ourselves and to stand by our convictions, but to also enjoy ourselves and have fun !  His encouragement and quiet determination in guiding us in the “right” direction motivated many of us to succeed and likely strive for better things.  I know many under his tutelage continued on to college and successful careers. 
Mr. Lagaso continued to have an influence in my life after high school and into my adult life.  He had a significant role as host and master of ceremony when I married my husband in 1984.  (We will be celebrating 30 years of marriage this June!)    
I believe his confidence and belief in me motivated me as I pursued my career in Social work and teaching.  Throughout the years I continued to want to stay connected to him if only through annual Christmas cards and holiday newsletters.   I was always touched by his words of pride and good wishes as we shared our family updates each year. 
  In pausing to reflect and celebrate his life, I know his legacy goes far beyond the music he is known for. It is his words of encouragement, demonstration of empathy, quiet confidence and joyful spirit that I know shaped the person I am today. 
He once told me to call him “AL” when we became adult friends.  I couldn't bring myself to do that.   It is with deep respect and honor that I will always remember and cherish him as Mr. Lagaso.
