Anita Leilani Kaopuiki Tyau, 96, of Honolulu, passed away on July 16, 2026.
She was the daughter of the late Howard and Victoria Kaopuiki and was raised in Papakōlea. She was predeceased by her husband, George En Fook Tyau, and by her siblings Vivian Meheula, Earl Kaopuiki Sr., Howard Kaopuiki Jr., Thelma Yoshitomi, Edward Kaopuiki, Doris Rodrigues, Valentine Kaopuiki, and Donald Kaopuiki.
Anita graduated from McKinley High School in 1946. She later worked as a secretary at the Hickam Air Force Base Fire Department, retiring after 34 years of dedicated service. She was well liked and highly respected by her colleagues.
Known for her infectious smile, bright laughter, warm hugs, and endless patience, Aunty Anita was the matriarch of the extended family. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Her caregiver for many years was her niece Lavern Flores.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Borthwick Mortuary, Maunakea Street. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Diamond Head Memorial Park.
