Baylin Lokeokalona Kala, born to the late Moses Mano Kala and Baylin Kepani Koko, embarked on her final journey to be with the Lord on October 3, 2023. Affectionally known as Lady, Aunty Bay, Momzie, Mom and Mama, she was a remarkable soul who touched the lives of many with her strong faith and spirit.
Baylin was the oldest girl of 15 children. She was born in Hana, Maui and moved to Honolulu before the age of 1. She loved her family, friends, and fur-babies with her whole heart. Although she lived a simple life, they generated all the wealth she needed. Baylin was tiny in stature, yet to all whom she met, she often seemed larger than life. A woman of valor, and a woman of strength (Proverbs 21:35), she navigated life with determination and grace, leaving a mark on everyone she encountered. She never shied away from telling it like it is. This characteristic not only defined her parenting style but also forged lasting connections with others. She was a vibrant tapestry of memories, each thread woven with love, laughter, and a touch of feistiness which kept everyone on their toes.
Baylin, 79, was preceded in death by her parents, Moses Mano Kala and Baylin Kepani Koko; brothers (in order of birth): Clinton K., Moses Jr., Steven, Clinton F.K., Leonard, Arnold, and Gaylord; sisters (in order of birth) Theresa Medeiros and Ruby Kahananui; son Reuben Palaylay.
She is survived by brothers Steven (Bonnie), and Colbert (Leolani); sisters: Mary Ann Wilcox (Dave), Sharon Kala, and Rechenda Kahananui (Sam); sons Michael (Gloria) and Keith; daughters: Baylina Kahalepauole, Anjanette (John) Reantaso, Angelica (Brandon) Tobosa, and Angela Tavares; 26 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and counting with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Our mom was deeply grateful to everyone who supported her on her journey. To those that have prayed with her and for her, those that carried her when her journey became challenging and those that have shown her immeasurable kindness, thank you for giving her the best version of you. It seemed her greatest pain was knowing she had to leave her wonderful family and great friends behind. Although her journey on this earth may have come to an end, her spirit and influence will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she touched. We bid you farewell, Mama, a hui hou with love and gratitude, knowing that you are now home resting pain-free and peacefully in the loving arms of your Lord and Savior. Our mom wished to be cremated and asked her family and friends to lovingly remember her as she was in life when she was smiling, strong and full of energy.
Memorial will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, 10am at Borthwick Mortuary Mauka Chapel with a Celebration of Life to be scheduled for a later date.
