Billie Jean Hauge, a woman of profound resilience and commitment to her community, passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2026. Raised on a Depression-era Nebraska farm, she moved to California where she married Harold Richard Hauge (d. 2018). In 1956, they settled in Mākaha, beginning a lifetime dedicated to the Waiʻanae Coast.
A visionary leader, Billie helped found the Waiʻanae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, expanded Hale Naʻau Pono, and chaired the Neighborhood Board. Through grant writing and advocacy, she supported Ka’ala Farms, Hoa ‘Aina, and many other community initiatives. She embodied kuleana and aloha, always grounding her service in local values.
She is survived by her children, Disa, Dana, Eric, and Evan; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and brothers Michael and Dennis. Her legacy of heart and service will forever inspire her family to serve the community she loved.
