Dary Saludares Llagas, beloved son of Felipinas Saludares Rojas and Angel Reyes Llagas (deceased) was born on July 6, 1961, in Tamunning, Guam. His older brother Xavier S. Llagas predeceased him, and he is survived by younger sister Jessica-Ann Rojas and his niece Selena Clark (Dominic) and their daughters Leila and Nohea, nephew Thomas Cambra. He is also survived by his Uncle Avelino and Lovey Saludares, Aunt Juanita and Ken Cox, Aunt Novena and George Hulen, and nephews and cousins.
Dary grew up during his formative years on Guam, later moving to Hawaii to live with his grandparents and attend middle and high school here in Hawaii. He graduated from Pearl City High and upon graduation decided to return to his place of birth, Guam. Upon returning to Guam, Dary was employed by Duty Free Shoppers at the Guam International Airport. Dary being of a quiet nature and a people pleaser, moved to Texas to be closer to his mother and younger sister. While living in Texas he was employed at a plastic manufacturing company named “Rubber Maid” a household name known to all. In the year 2009 he returned to Hawaii to be with his mother and sister once again. Upon his return to Oahu his first job was at Hickam AF Base Exchange and has been there ever since – 17 years, until his untimely passing. He truly loved working there and enjoyed his co-workers and supervisors. Dary was a quiet and strong-willed person. He never complained about anything – his health or any other situations.
Dary’s work ethic was exemplary, he went to work no matter what the weather was like in Texas as well as in Hawaii. – Rain or shine, hail stones, freezing snow, winds and floods – he would still go to work.
The story about Dary’s Jeep:To put it lightly, his Jeep was the most precious thing to him, whether in Texas or Hawaii.
He drove his Jeep from Arlington, TX to Las Vegas, NV to join his sister before moving back to Hawaii. (That’s driving thousands of miles, takes about 1-2 days driving time.) Had his jeep shipped to Hawaii; used it to commute to and from work at Hickam AFB. A year later, the Jeep now sits idle in the driveway --- guess it couldn’t handle the Honolulu traffic!!! He took great care of his Jeep even when it wasn’t running. He bought a new canvas top, battery, tires, ran the engine from time to time until it would no longer started. He still refused to get rid of it. He meant it to be his “pet project” upon his retirement - it was not to be.
Many offers (especially the younger generation) have passed by and offered to buy it – his answer was always “NO, it’s not for sale.”
Dary also had another passion – he liked to cook. Dary’s joy was cooking for others. He liked to cook with whatever he had on hand as ingredients. So, his dish may or may not have the same taste each time that he prepared. “Baked Chicken and Broccoli Casserole with Mushroom gravy“ was one of his favorites since he was a teenager. Sharing is caring, and Dary was indeed a sharing, caring, loving and the kindest person you would ever meet.
Thank you all for your time and presence, it means a lot to our family!
A hui Hou, All, until we meet again.
