Diane “Susu” Sumie Ichimasa, 76, of Honolulu, Hawaii, was born June 4, 1950, in Honolulu, Hawaii, and passed away on July 8, 2026. Susu will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection for the steady kindness she offered so freely, and for the thoughtful care she brought to the people fortunate enough to know her.
Throughout her life, Susu carried herself with a quiet wisdom and a generous spirit—qualities that made others feel seen, welcomed, and valued. She was cherished not only for what she did, but for how she did it: with patience, consideration, and a sincere attentiveness that left a lasting impression. Her creativity and colorful way of seeing the world added warmth and light to everyday moments, and her gifts as a teacher reflected a lifelong commitment to guiding and uplifting others.
Susu was preceded in death by her mother, Rose Sakae Kira; her father, Arnold Hiroto Ichimasa; her brother, Arnold M. Ichimasa (Faye); and her brother, Roy Ichimasa.
She is survived by her sister, Pat Newalu (Arthur); her niece, Bree Ichimasa; her nephew, Bryce Ichimasa (Yaowaluck); and her grand niece, Mikayla Ichimasa.
Susu’s memory will remain a source of comfort and gratitude—held close by family and all who came to know her thoughtful presence, generous heart, and the gentle strength of her guidance.
