During wrestling season, he was my practice partner, my warm-up partner and my brother. I remember the times when we’d have our practices at the St. Louis bubble or our club practices. it was all business on the mat, but at the same time, we’d play around, too. Dre is that perfect friend, always caring and making sure that his friends were OK. He loved so many
things in life especially his family and his Uncle Frank, his car, his dogs and food. I will miss his laughter, and our photo sessions of ourselves when we’d go out. I will always remember those early morning practices and runs we’d do together. It feels like it was only yesterday that we would be drilling together. After those Saturday morning practices, we’d go out to eat and shop, but Dre and I would always love to take flics (computer animations). He would always FaceTime me and show me his outfits. It’s been difficult thinking of Dre in the past tense, because we both had our life planned ahead, in the future, our dreams. We both were to sign for Midland University and wrestle together. Our passion for the sport was real and we loved being on the mat, but the passion together took a turn on March 3, 2022. I lost my brother. I will never see the wink in his eyes again, only through photo. I will never see him wrestle again, only through videos, I will never hear him speak again, only through videos. But I must say, what he has taught me throughout his being is that he will always be by my side, near or far, as I continue to feel him. He is now my brother from heaven and my angel. I miss my bro

happy graduation dreddin!

i could sit here and explain how much i miss you. i could tell you how much i love you and how each and every day you cross my mind. i could tell you how absolutely heart breaking it was to lose you. 

everyday i wish you could continue to grow up with me & alizeih because 18 years sure wasn’t enough. i wish that we could’ve watched you walk across that stage & recieve your diploma. i wish i could watch you wrestle in college. 

i could sit here and list all of the things i have suffered due to your passing & explaining all of the negatives it has brought me. 

but i won’t, i can’t. 

i can’t because that’s not how i want to remember you. 

i want to remember your kind soul & how easily your presence lit up a room. i want to remember your contagious laugh & how your smile made everyone else around you smile. but most of all i want to remember you for all of the hearts you touched on this earth, rather than the horrible things that made you leave it. 

slowly i am learning to turn the loss of you into strengh. i am learning to allow it to inspire me rather than discourage me. because of you i am learning to be exceptional rather than simply mediocre. 

because of your loss, i have learned what it is like to feel immense love, as well as, immense pain. 

you have taught me what it is like to lose something so valuable, such as life. and for that i have learned to appreciate it so much more. 

obviously it was assumed that we had forever and that you wouldn’t leave our sides. but that’s not the case anymore, God knows you tried with all you had in you to stay. 

with your effort and determination, you have touched so many hearts. 

i hope, more than anything, you are happy and free of pain. i hope you still have that beautiful smile on your face. 

one day it will be a hello again, but until then i will see you later.

It truly is unbelievable how fast time can pass us by. The first time we met you was in September of 2006. You were so small! It was a quick Hello! and Goodbye! 

I wish we had the chance to see you accomplish so many things that your Mom, Dad, Sister, Family and Friends have shared with us through the years before God called you home. I was the newest coach to St.Louis so I was feeling pretty nervous to be working with the kids. At first I was really quiet and didn’t interact too much, but then I met Dreddin. He would always ask to wrestle and ask me how to do different moves. When he asked me to wrestle and asked me questions he made me feel really comfortable and apart of the team. His good attitude and bright personality really made me feel welcomed to the team.

My favorite memory of my nephew was when he was about 4 years old. Lori and Rob would bring the kids over to my house for New Year’s Eve. We would eat bbq, talk story, and then pop fireworks. I remember the fireworks causing so much smoke that Dreddin started to rub his eyes and cough. He was just a young boy at the time so I carried him in my arms and I brought him to our 2nd floor balcony to watch the fireworks. At midnight, I remember holding him and telling him “Happy New Year Dre!” And he looked at me with a smile. We both watched as tons of shells were exploding and the sky lit up with sparkles. After about 10 minutes, I said, “Hey, Dre..” and I stopped mid sentence bc I had realized that my nephew had fallen asleep in my arms. It was a good sleep too. The kind of sleep where I could see drops of drool hitting my shirt. I remember carrying him back to his parents  with my back and arms aching and wishing that one day I would have a son like that. That memory was 15 years ago and I still carry that memory in my heart. I am just proud that the cute and handsome boy that fell asleep in my arms years ago grew up to be a loving and caring person who had a passion for sports and loved his family deeply. Life will never be the same without him... #drepandoforever

I will always remember Dre as a hard worker and team leader. Dre was such a technical, and fast wrestler, I would often use him as a role model for the other boys to follow. Dre had the best smile, and greatest attitude in every thing that was asked to be done, he could be counted on to get the job done. Dre you will be missed. RIL

I wanted you to know that you was a perfect nephew in my eyes. You was humble , respectful, & a hard working animal. I would always brag about you to everyone talking about saint Louis high school. More importantly you had the absolute best supporting cast that would do anything for you. You’re mom & dad lived there life for you & Allie and did there best raising such amazing kids. I want you to know that  I’m so proud of you Dre & miss you so much. Thank You for helping me build my sidewalk at my house, I will never forget you Dre . I love you Dre! 

Several Fond memories of Dreddin  was back in April and May of 2017 when we captured when Derddin helped us to win the 2017 Hawaii USA Wrestling Championships  with Dreddin's hardwork and dedication and also his humbleness it seted him far from the rest. I'm  gonna miss Dreddin's determination, Hardwork ethics,humbleness  , and his respectfulness of all of his Teammates that he grew up training with on Team Scorpions Wrestling Club.  He wil greatly be missed by all of his former Scorpions Team Mates and Coaches, love you Dreddin Coach Pat and my Ohana will miss you deeply and until we meet again in that Masion in the Sky

I will always keep the memory of Draddin's bright smile in my heart.  In third grade, he loved spam musubi and said he loved it so much he would marry it.  He loved school and his friends. After he graduated third grade, he always said, "Hi," to me on campus. I know that he will be missed dearly by his friends and family. I am so proud of his accomplishments. He touched many people's lives including mine. Prayers and blessings to his entire Ohana.

Dreddin Villalpando,

A favorite memory with my beloved brother, is the summer of 2020. The year that Dreddin V. would get his license before all of us. I could remember that summer like it was yesterday, almost everyday of that summer Dre would pick me up early morning’s to get a beach session in. Oh, and I can’t forget our favorite spot, Nanakuli, Zublands beach. After spending hours and hours at the beach, our go to spot to eat would be right across the street, Taco Bell. Dre would always order a number 4, in fact sometimes he’d order two of those. And trust me, when they say Dre loves food, that boy really can eat! As sunset comes down, we’d all head back to my house to either lift or hang down in my living room. We would talk about all types of things, especially working as nurses together in the future. As this is only one special memory with Dreddin, there is countless memories that will forever be cherished in my heart with Dre. I love and miss you so much Dre!

I first met dre when I started dating alizeih and at first the interactions between us were “wassup” and “shoots”. We were both introverts and neither of us wanted to open up to one another until time passed and we started to talk more and actually have conversations. We got super close with Ali being in school and me moving into their house. He would start to invite me in doing things with his friends like going to the beach and other things he’d like to do. After that whenever he trained for season or just to stay in shape I would join him in training. I had my fair share of training with state placers and state champs but training with dre was much more intense and tiring but it was always a good training session with dre. Wrestling with dre was tough, he was very technical and his speed was like nothing I seen before he’ll always be a champ in my eyes. Out of all the things we did together taking pictures of each other was hands down our favorite thing to do with each other. We’d drive all the way out to Kaka’ako just to take pictures because that’s where all the graffiti and cool painted murals and we’d even take pictures on hikes. We were just friends and as time went on neither of us noticed that we became brothers. It’s the small things I miss most like when we’d play games together which would either be UFC or NBA2k playgrounds or when we’d see each other after I finished work and he finished school and his training and he’d tell me “wassup uso” or when we’d go to bed and he’d tell me “goodnight, love you uso” or hearing him chew his food so loudly I can hear him across the room or him eating all my ice cream and leaving just a little for me or sometimes I would wash dishes and he’d grab my butt jokingly. Knowing that those things will never happen again is what hurts the most he’s the brother I never knew I needed and I just hope he knows how much I love and miss him #drepandoforever 

where do i start, i knew dre since i could remember we grew up together along with aunty lori, uncle rob and ali, dre was a main character in my life as we grew older we weren’t in touch as much but we’d see each other pretty often and we always knew what it was… id admire how he went from a short chubby kid into the best wrestler that i knew i never got a chance to tell dre but he was always a big inspiration in my life because of how focused determined and dedicated he was to everything he did. i’m so grateful for all the times and memories that i have with dre and all the car rides that we had when aunty lori would take us to school, a funny story i have with dre is when we got hit from behind and got into a 3 car accident and dre was dieting at the time and he was so un fazed that he continued to eat his boiled eggs even after we got hit pretty hard. I first met the Villapondo family at the Oregon 14-day intensive wrestling camp and immediately they welcomed me and made me feel comfortable, I love and appreciate all the help from Dreddin, Alizeih, and uncle Rob. I had that honor to grind along Dre as we were in the same running group for the camp. Each day we would push each other and it was there I noticed what a hard working and happy boy Dre was. 

I had the chance to text Dre about 3 weeks before the state tournament because my coach at menlo asked me who’s the best guys out there in Hawai’i right now. Immediately the first person that came to my mind was Dre so I texted him to ask him how his season was and what his plan for college was. I tried to convince him to go Menlo but he had already committed to Midland. He had told me how he was planing to major in nursing and that he was excited to be able to watch all the Hawaii boys scrap out here!!! I said the same and was just happy to see him in the future. 
Dre was one of those guys that I knew in my heart was talented, hardworking, and genuinely a good person. He is the the type of person I wanted as a teammate, a brother, and apart of my  menlo family!!

I really never got a chance to have pics with him these past 7 months because we only saw each other in the wrestling room. It was obvious from the day I walked into The Sprung my first year as a guest on the Saint Louis campus that this young man was going to be the team’s general one day. His silent blue collar work ethic was the stuff of legend, often setting the pace in the room. When it was go time, he was always ready.  No opponent was too big, too fast, or too old to receive his wrath.  He respected everyone he shared the mat with, but that was a good and bad thing for his opponents who always got him at his best.

At the beginning of this season, he and I sat down so we could talk about the plan for the season and how he, along with his classmates Cyrus, Boston and Blaze would be my pillars. As a first time head coach, I asked them to set the tone daily and even through injury Dre showed up to help lead his team everyday. 

I think about him everyday, thankful to have had the opportunity to know someone so special. It has been my pleasure to have shared the mat with him. 

Dre. You made me feel proud to be a Villalpando. Cousin Rob. You keep having to be the one to show us the way. I have seen strength like no other while watching your family through this grieving process. I have also struggled through depression and want to send all my families love and support.  To all who is reading this through just know you are loved.

Our condolences to the Villapando Ohana. I remember Dreddin as a teammate who always improved each time we stepped on the mat. He was always determined to get better and be the best to his abilities. Dreddin and I helped each other improve throughout our Jiujitsu chapter, I recall being challenged in one of our training session and I was getting pressured and constant wrestling moves firing my way and Dreddin for sure  gave me a challenge. From there on we both trained together to improve together, to teach each other, to help each other be the best of ourselves. We got closer throughout the years of being teammates! My favorite memory was hanging out at the Millilani Shopping center with Dreddin and Alizeih! Rest In Love Dreddin!

When I think of Dre I remember how big his smile was. He had a contagious smile and was such a sweetheart. I sadly don’t have much pictures with him but I’m happy that I found this one. I would mostly get to see him at our family Labor Day camp that we had every year, those are some of the best memories I have with him and my family. Rest In Peace Dre, I love you❤️

2021 OIA Finals spectators were not allowed. I was asked could Dre and Cyrus come watch. Keep in mind no spectators so you think I was gonna follow the rules for Dre man heck no so he came on down with Cyrus, but had a third person. I was like really Dre? He’s with you too? With that big smile he said “yeah coach” So I get them all in and I specifically told them don’t get noticed and they didn’t….until Finals started. Instead of sitting in the crowd they sat where nobody else was sitting. They should have just worn Saint Louis gear at this point cause they stuck out like a sore thumb. Then they got caught and I was repeating in my head don’t put my name in it knuckleheads, but at the end everything worked out so they stayed and watched. That would be the last time I saw Dre, the last time I shook his hand, and the last time I’d see that smile. It was a honor and a pleasure knowing you Dre. You will forever be our champion and we are so proud of you. We will all reunited with you again and it will be a glorious day. We love you Dre!

Dre, Po’okela and La’akea, the good ol days!

Dreddin was one of my first friend on the wrestling team. He would push me to be better on and off the mat. He was the hardest worker in the room and motivated the team and I. 

Dre was a respectful, kind and extremely hard working young man. In all my years of coaching I never had to correct him in anyway or ask him to help when work needed to be done. He was as tuff as nails yet kind hearted as they come. He’s a one of a kind and I will miss watching him take on the world. Rest in Love Dre. - Coach Kaha’a
