Eustaquio Ganut Balictar

Eustaquio “Taquio” Ganut Balictar, 92, of Waianae, Hawaii was a retired laborer with Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company. Originally from Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was preceded in death by his parents, Telesforo and Dominga, and siblings, Fermina, Florencia, and Theodore “Ted”

He studied Pre-Med at the Manila Central University in the Philippines, later switching his track and graduating with a degree in Medical Technology in 1968. Throughout his young adult years, he built several homes and a business with his own hands and gave them to his family in the Philippines.

After being petitioned by his mother, he moved to Los Angeles, California where he lived for a short while with his mother and brother Ted. He eventually moved to Hawaii on the island of O’ahu to seek a job as a medical technologist but instead chose to become a laborer with Hawaiian Dredging, working in masonry and construction for over 30 years.

In 1974, he went back to the Philippines to marry Teresita, returned to Hawaii, and petitioned for her and her family to come to America. He and his wife first lived in the city of Waipahu and then bought a house in Nanakuli, Waianae where they raised their 6 children. Even after retiring as a laborer, he continued to work at Hawaii Baptist Academy and Tamura’s in Waianae.

Taquio was a loving, thoughtful, and generous man. He had a kind and humble soul and loved to laugh and smile. He enjoyed barbecuing, cooking, throw net fishing, swimming, building and fixing things, reading his newspapers and many books, watching UH volleyball and basketball games, wrestling and boxing matches, and kung fu movies and shows. He loved his many animals, plants, and trees and was known to have a green thumb.

When his children were younger, he loved to take them to school and to pick them up, waiting to give them a hug and always asked, “What did you learn today?” In his later years, he loved to watch and play with his grandchildren, always making sure they were fed and happy.

He is survived by his wife, Teresita and their 6 children: son Eugene and his wife Jennifer with their children Eugene Jr., Jillian, and Janelle; daughter Joan and her husband Robert Jr. with their children Robert III and Riley; daughter Jasmine and her partner Kale with their children Kale Kaimana and Ka’eo; son James and his wife Nube with their son James Jr.; and daughter Theryl and son Jonathan. There are also many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles residing across the US and Philippines who loved him dearly and will miss him greatly.

A private service will be held at Borthwick Mortuary.
