Not sure if this is the same person, but interesting to say the least.

Frank E. Butterworth was my adoptive grandfather through my dad, Vaivao. For most of my childhood, Grandpa Frank & grandma Irene were the only grandparents I knew. On a few weekends, my brother & I got to spend time w. them at their condo across frm Ala Moana, & each morning, grandpa would get up early in the morning & go across the street for a swim in the ocean. Wed watch fr him frm the balcony with grandma Irene & wed wave & hope he saw us.. that is one of my most prominent memories frm my childhood. They were truly the warmest & most loving ppl Ive ever had the pleasure of knowing. 
Years later, when we moved away from Hawaii, grandpa Frank always sent us little red envelopes on holidays & birthdays with little checks to deposit into our starter bank accounts with a sweet note in his handwriting. I used to look forward to the money, like any kid.. until I reached an age where I truly appreciated his handwritten notes. I kept one as a keepsake.. for years, Id look at that worn piece of paper pinned to my wall. In his shaky, beautiful cursive, it read we may not have been blessed with children of our own, but we were fortunate enough to choose our grandkids, and wed choose you every time. For someone with no blood relation to us, to love us soooo unconditionally & truly, it meant the world to me. I cant thank God & my lucky stars enough for putting Frank & Irene Butterworth in our lives. It was an honor to call them my palagi grandparents. I always feel a wave of gratitude & love when I think of Grandpa Frank & Grandma Irene, & Im happy theyre together now in heaven

I was in the Navy, stationed on a submarine at Pearl Harbor from 1958 to 1961, when I met Frank and Irene Butterworth.  They were two of the most welcoming people I have ever met.

Frank’s memory for faces and names was phenomenal.   My wife and I visited First United Methodist Church while vacationing in Hawaii sometime around 2000; and as we walked into the church, Frank was standing there and greeted me with “Hi, Mike” as though it was only yesterday that he had seen me.

I will miss him and Irene.

It is unfortunate that I will not be able to attend the services for Rev. Butterworth as I am in Portland, OR. attending the graduation of my grandson. 

I knew Frank for over 50 years.  He was a very important and helpful leader for many aspects of life in Hawaii.  I feel fortunate to have been able to help support one of his favorite interests --- the Pacific Islander Scholarship Fund.

Frank will be missed!

Though raised in the Catholic faith, I had lost my religious path. I will forever be grateful to the Rev. Butterworth helping to restore my faith in God and my fellow man, through his inspirational sermons. He truly was a devoted, inspiring, charismatic man of God. His services were filled to overflowing.

We hold Frank dear in our hearts, grateful for his leadership, his friendship, his faith, and his service to the United Methodist Church.  He touched our lives deeply and we are eternally thankful.
May the good Lord hold  Frank always in the palm of His tender and loving hand.
