Last words “I LOVE YOU ALL” were spoken with tremendous sincerity, dignity and class. Embraced in comfort, “EASY” he said. Encircled by his children and wife in a tunnel, surrounded with love. Our patriarch embraced the amazing journey with excitement, embarking on eternal life. Loving, beautiful, spiritual, humbling, amazing, calm, remarkable was his send off. Being the excellent planner he was, it was executed exactly to a tee.
Born to Amethyst Kuʻupuni Twickler and Walter Helemona Emmsley in Honolulu on July 10, 1954. Raised in San Leandro, California with hanai parents, May Waiola “Ala” Crabbe & Ralph Freitas.
As a young man he joined the United States Navy. Traveling the seas learning many skills. Befriending many as he would say, “people come & go.”
Hawai’i was always on his mind as he dreamt of the perfect place to call home. His cousins and ‘Ohana were waiting with open arms. He jumped at the opportunity and established his roots in Oʻahu to build his legacy.
Graduated from Honolulu Community College. Worked as a career federal employee at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, PWC and at Marine Corp Base Hawaiʻi, where he retired in 2014 as a Facilities Maintenance Manager.
Within the year of the Hokule’a 1976, by destiny he met his sweetheart, soul mate and eternal partner, Darylwin Kamakolunuiokalani “Sweety” Gilman Emmsley.
The legacy. Four children, Kekamamaikalani Jonathan (Kanoe), Kealohamakua Jason (Noelle), Season Kamakolunuiokalani Baldauf (Daniel), Sarah Kawelinameanuimaikalani. With 18 grandchildren and 1 grand fur baby.
Built his home in Kailua, Oʻahu. Loving life fully with his sweetheart, as seasoned globetrotters. Always jamming to good tunes and enjoying every dining experience. Lived for time with grandchildren and was an ever present family man.
