Joseph Francis Lohmeier

Joseph Francis Lohmeier, age 90 of Honolulu, HI, passed away on August 14, 2026. Joe was born on August 28, 1935 in San Francisco, CA to Lawrence and LaVaun (Parker) Lohmeier and grew up in Lincoln, NE. While in the Marine Corps, he was stationed in Honolulu, HI where he met and married Estrelia G. Gascon in 1962. After the Marine Corps, Joe worked as a machinist and metals inspector at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. His wife encouraged him to pursue his dream of becoming a carpenter, and in 1979 he received his Associate in Science in Carpentry from Honolulu Community College. Joe worked as a carpenter for many years in Hawaii before transitioning into facilities management, where he retired as the Institution Facilities Superintendent of the Women’s Community Correctional Center. A dedicated mentor and family man, Joe coached his sons’ and grandsons’ sports teams, led a Cub Scout troop, and explored the trails of Oʻahu with his family. In his retirement years, he found joy working in the yard, tackling Sudoku puzzles, cruising with the Hawaii Performance Mustang Club, and tracing his family roots. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estrel; brother, Lawrence Lohmeier; sister, Mary and her husband Gary Barrett; sister Della and her husband Edwin Dale Olson; brother-in-law, Generoso Gascon; and sister-in-law, Enriqueta Gascon. Joe is survived by his brother Kenneth Lohmeier; sons, Joseph(Erika) and Gavin; daughter, Bridget (Charles Zuver); grandchildren, Shane (Allison) Hanley and Matthew Hanley; and three great-grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends. Services will be held in private.
