Juan Fragoso

Chief Warrant Officer 3 Juan Fragoso, 40, passed away on August 21, 2026. Born on New Year’s Day in 1986, Juan spent his early childhood in Orange, California, before moving to Oaxaca, Mexico, where he lived through his teenage years until returning to California at the age of 18. Even from the young age of eleven, Juan harbored a clear and unwavering dream: he knew with certainty that he was going to serve his nation in the United States Army.

Fulfilling that childhood calling, Juan enlisted in the Army in June 2006. Following his graduation from Initial Entry Training as a Motor Transport Operator (88M), he deployed to Iraq. While on mission, his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED). That harrowing experience became a defining turning point in his life—igniting a fierce, lifelong commitment to protect his fellow soldiers from similar dangers.

Driven by that resolve, Juan volunteered for and graduated from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) School in 2009. As an EOD technician, he deployed multiple times to Afghanistan supporting the 75th Ranger Regiment. His valor, skill, and calm under immense pressure earned him numerous military honors, including the Bronze Star Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and two Army Achievement Medals. In 2018, while serving at the rank of Sergeant First Class, Juan graduated from Warrant Officer Candidate School and ultimately attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 during his distinguished 20-year military career.

Beyond his uniform and the deep brotherhood he forged with fellow soldiers around the world, Juan’s heart belonged entirely to his family. He was a devoted, loving husband to his wife, Jessica, and an adoring father to his two daughters, Ailina and Sophia. To his mother, Maria, he was a son of immense honor; to his siblings, he was an inspiring, protective big brother and a loyal friend who could always be counted on, without fail.

Juan is survived by his beloved wife, Jessica Fragoso; his cherished daughters, Ailina Fragoso and Sophia Tufillaro; his loving mother, Maria Fragoso; and his devoted siblings, Rene Fragoso, Karina Fragoso, and Irene Fragoso; as well as extended family, dear friends, and his brothers-in-arms across the EOD and military communities.

Juan, we will endure a lifetime of missing you for the privilege of knowing and loving you. Our grief is evidence that even death can’t stop love. We are so incredibly lucky to have had you in our lives.
