It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Kaulike “KK” Kalama on January 19, 2020, at the age of 34. Kaulike was born on June 27, 1985, in Anchorage, Alaska, the son of Reyton Kahalepauole and Shawnene Kehaulani Kalama. Kaulike graduated from McKinley High School in 2003 where he gained athletic accolades. He was on the All-Star Football Team, won the state mixed championship for paddling in 2003, and received the Honolulu Star-Bulletin All-State honorable mention in the fall of 2002 as a linebacker. After high school, Kaulike married his high school sweetheart, Ka‘ohinani (Segovia). In 2005, Kaulike and Ka‘ohinani were blessed with their son, Kaumana, Kaulike’s pride and joy! Kaulike was a 9-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department where he met his calling to help protect and serve his community. Kaulike enjoyed spending time with family and friends, catching waves at Sandy Beach, attending concerts, cracking jokes, and teaching his son, Kaumana, all there was to know about football and paddling. Kaulike also spent much of his free time as a volunteer football coach where he helped to mentor and guide Hawaii’s youth, while teaching them about a sport he was so passionate about.
Kaulike is survived by his father, Reyton Kahalepauole; his wife, Ka‘ohinani Kalama (Segovia); his son, Kaumana Kalama; his grandmother, Sheila Kahalepauole; his grandfather, Ralph Kalama; his sister, Anuhea Faumui (Maalo); his brothers, Keawe Kalama (Cheyenne) and Kauhiwai Kalama; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased by his mother, Shawnene Kehaulani Kalama, and his grandmother, El Monte Kalama. Kaulike was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend, and community servant who will be deeply missed by many!
