          Waldemar (Duke’s) family in Koloa, Kaua’i welcomed Maile with open arms.  His parents, Raymond Kanahele Duvauchelle and Alice Kealaula Tanaka Duvauchelle became her parents too! His siblings: Raymond Pihaleo Duvauchelle (Josephine), Ernest Abraham (Eileen), Winona Laua’eJenkins Barringer (George, Ronald) and Verna Maheha Duvauchelle.

          They raised two children—Waldemar K. Duvauchelle and Stacie Lanihau Friel (Tommy), who are grateful for everything she has done for them, fortunate for all she taught them, thankful for her loving service for their children and grandchildren, and appreciative of her happy and pleasant demeanor and example! 

          Maile’s six grandchildren adore her: 
Keiki S. Ulufale (Mike), Anuhea F. St. Laurent (Chauncey), Kaneakua T. Friel, Kala D. Friel, Waldemar K. Duvauchelle & Wolfgang K. Duvauchelle.  As do her 8 great-grandchildren: Keile A. Kala’aukahi, Leo K. Kala’aukahi, Kapikolamaku L. St. Laurent, Kilakila E. St. Laurent, Maile R. St. Laurent, Makai J. Friel, Kekoa T. Friel, & Stacie L. Ulufale.

          Memorial Services were held at Borthwick Mortuary on May 20, 2021, with military honors and burial of urn at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, where she rests at peace with Duke. 

         The Lord’s Prayer was recited in Hawaiian by her ‘ohana and friends, “Families Can Be Together Forever” and “How Great Thou Art” was sung, along with  Aloha ‘Oe at the end of the ceremony.  

          A Hui Hou Mom!!  Well done thou good and faithful servant!  Until we meet again, we’ll be missing you.  We know we will see you again! 

          Maile Lorch Duvauchelle, 95, joined her Heavenly Father on March 20, 2021. She was first and foremost a devoted and loving mother who put her career on hold for 10 years to be a stay-at-home mom to Dukie and Stacie, and home-maker for the love of her life—Waldemar K. Duvauchelle, who had a long career as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army. 

          Maile was born in San Francisco and grew up in Waikiki. Her Father was George Lorch, who was a soldier in the U.S. Army for 12 years and  then, a printer.  Her mother was Marguerite Kaniu Pa Lorch of Hilo.  Sadly, her mother died at the age of 32, leaving six children under the age of 10. Maile was 4 at the time.  Maile is the last of her siblings: Marguerite Kaniu Kennedy (Frank), George Keonaona Lorch, Ruth Lehua Santos (Bobby), Karl Pa Lorch Sr. ( Pleiades, Gay), and James (Kimo) Ha’alilio Pa Sr. 

          Maile loved life and learning! She loved surfing, and assured that it remained a family tradition by teaching her children. She enjoyed photography and genealogy, corresponding with friends and traveling, visiting relatives and friends, attending Puohala Sr. Center, then Salt Lake Sr. Center, playing and teaching Mah Jong, caring for her 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren who adore her!!!

          She graduated from McKinley High School in 1943 and worked at Ford Island for 7 years before joining the Army (Women’s Army Corps) in 1950, at the age of 25.  She was stationed in Germany where she was able to explore Europe, ski for the first time, and meet her father’s family!  She enjoyed delving into different cultures and learning languages to be able to communicate with new friends and her relatives. She kept in touch with her German relatives throughout the years by writing, telephone, cell phone and email

          Upon her honorable discharge, she continued her federal employment collecting payments of telephone bills at Ft. Shafter Flats, where she met Waldemar K. Duvauchelle, Sr.
