Masao Shiroma, 90 yrs old of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away peacefully on July 2nd at Straub Benioff Medical Center.
He was born on October 21, 1935 in the town of Kahuku to Yosuke and Kamato Shiroma. Masao grew up in Kahuku and graduated from Kahuku High School, later attending the apprenticeship program in carpentry, which he completed in 1960.
Masao spent over 40 years working as a carpenter at various companies – Most notably Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, where he performed freeway construction. He was known for his strong work ethic, positive attitude, and various accomplishments throughout his career, including being awarded the President’s Special Award for his contributions to the Apprenticeship Training program.
Outside of work, Masao enjoyed volunteering for the Hawaii United Okinawan Association, where he served many years as club president and he loved attending church. He found great joy in spending time with family, traveling, gardening, sports and most of all playing baseball.
Masao Shiroma is survived by his children, Gary and Leslie Shiroma and their spouses, 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 2 elder siblings.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Shiroma and 5 siblings.
Those who knew Masao will remember him for his acts of kindness, sense of humor, generosity, and faith. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
