Aloha Uncle Merv,

It just seems like an incomplete world to have a family member missing from it. Growing up you were always the uncle who loved to play music and sing. Even though I am not with the family right now, I know that they are strong because of you. You're life was spent spreading the aloha spirit and attitude.

My deepest condolences to Aunty Wreath, Kawelo, Carrie, Kawehi, Kawena, Kawekiu, and the rest of the Kawainui family. Your memories will always live on! Until me meet again~

And to the family; I will always be here for you guys, even when I'm hundreds of miles away.

To my dearest braddah Merv & 'ohana - My heart is full of sadness for losing such a great person full of aloha and 'ike.  I can only mahalo all of you, his loving 'ohana, for making our dear classmate and friend piha with joy and happiness.  I will never forget attending all those assemblies sitting next to him since we were assigned seats alphabetically, laughing and being kolohe in our younger years.  The laughs and fun just continued in our more senior years at our reunions, enjoying prepping food for the lu'au with Merv and family, and jamming in Iolani dorm lounge to the early morn with our other braddahs.  These memories will remain in my heart forever, and I can only mahalo Merv and all of his 'ohana for sharing such a special man with us all.  Malama pono Merv and keep that instrument tuned and lovely voice ready for when our paths cross again.  Lurline & 'ohana, our prayers and thoughts are with you always, but especially during this time of loss.  May the memories of braddah Merv and all his goodness keep us smiling for eternity.  His manner was that of a Faters Love,

Sharing was something that just   shined through.

Farewell and Aloha my Big Hawaiian Brother--I will miss you!  In life we meet few people that touch our hearts as you could.  Your life was a complete blessing to me in so many ways.  The laughs we shared, the incredible voice and gift of musical talent that you had...and the memories.  The first time you saw snow in Seattle and dove into the yard making snow angles will forever live with me in such a great way--you always made me laugh. His hugs were the best and his sense of humor unmatched.  We celebrate his life with you, for we are all better for knowing him and your beautiful family. Dear Brother Merv,  I cannot tell you how much we will miss your smiling face.  How fortunate we were to have such a kind-hearted, warm spirited,  intelligent and talented brother. Lurline:  Its been a long time since since graduation and JA (This is when we first met you through merv (There was also Norman Miyasato, Todd Young, myself (Doug Souza).  I am not able to be home for his services but my thoughts and prayers are with you (All the way from Oregon) and your family. Ahui Hou, Malama Pono, ame Pomaika'i ke Akua.

To the family and more of Merv Kawainui. Although I have not met Merv, his loving and gentle legacy will forever be with you and yours in your hearts and minds. Please accept our condolences for the passing of such a great man, father, friend, and unko. There is a special place for him in the heavens and in all our hearts. God bless you and He will. Dearest Merv! I will always remember your gentle touch, nahenahe voice & great big heart, ever since I met you when I first started dating Joe Boy. Now you, Joe Boy, mom, Uncle Aba, Uncle Michael, grandma & grandpa Kawainui & the rest of our family & friends who have gone before us will be reunited in HIS presence! I can only imagine the pa'ina, the music, the celebration the angels are having, having gained another angel! You will surely be deeply missed, but never, ever forgotten!
