Monica Manchi Lau
October 19, 1953 – October 7, 2020
DRIVE-THRU VISITATION Friday, November 6, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Entrance from Vineyard Blvd & Maunakea St.
On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, Monica Lau, loving wife, mother of three children, and grandmother to 9 grandchildren passed away at the age of 66.
Monica was born in Macau, China on October 19, 1953. She lived there with her parents and five siblings until she moved to Hawaii in 1974. Monica worked tirelessly as a hotel housekeeper while raising her son and two twin daughters. On September 17, 1994, she married Philip Lau. She retired from the Hilton hotel in 2014 and has been enjoying retirement by traveling and caring for her grandchildren.
Monica traveled all over the world with Philip. They stayed at fancy hotels, tasted wonderful cuisine, experienced different cultures, and enjoyed endless shopping. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, courage, determination, patience, and generosity. Her smile would cheer up the room, her voice would comfort the scared, her jook would heal the sick, and her noodles, spam musubi, and sticky rice would satisfy the starving. She always provided love and support for her family as well as always boast about their accomplishments.
Monica is survived by her husband Philip, her son Alton, her twin daughters Cellina and Rosanna, her grandchildren, Mason, Koby, Jaryn, Kira Rose, Zoey, Kylie, Brady, Rysten, Tatum, her 3 sisters Cecilia, Victoria, Kin Chi, and several nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid-19 and State guidelines, the in-person funeral service will be private but will be available for virtual viewing on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Borthwick Mortuary located at 1330 Maunakea St, Honolulu, HI 96817.
