

On October 26, 2011, Mung Hong (fondly known as Joe) Yee passed away in the presence of his loved ones at St. Francis West Hospital at approximately 10:00 p.m. Joe endured a short battle of Lung cancer before succumbing to the effects of emphysema.
Born on February 13, 1942 to parents Raymond Sai Keong Yee and Helen See Moi Lum, Joe was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii along with siblings Edward Yee, Robert Yee, Joyce Kealoha, and Betty Matsumoto. Joe attended University of Hawaii Laboratory School and enlisted in the United States Army Reserve upon his high school graduation in 1960.
Joe married Janie Yuk Lin Kam on a warm summer day on July 16, 1966. Together they bore two children: Lori Ann Mee Ling Fujimoto and Liane Mee Larn Viloria. Joe resided in the community of Momilani in the Pearl City area and his primary occupation was a sales representative for Kraft Foods/Nabisco. After retirement, Joe took on a part-time job at the Navy Exchange in the security department.
In 1993, Joe became the father-in-law of Blane Viloria who married his daughter Liane. Together, they blessed Joe with two granddaughters; Megan Jillian and Maya Jody Viloria. Next, Joe welcomed another son-in-law to the family, Eric Fujimoto, who wed his eldest daughter Lori Ann in 2000. Joe was the proud grandparent of his two grandsons; Dylen Kynen-Joji and Camden Noel Yee Fujimoto.
In addition, Joe was the hanai father to his sister Betty Matsumoto. He was an integral part of the lives of her sons Shayne Jaime and Shannon Joey Matsumoto.
Please join us for a celebration of Joe’s life on Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Borthwick Mortuary. Visitations begin at 5:30 p.m. and the service will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. Guests are welcome to join the family in dressing in UH attire to celebrate Joe's passion for the program.
