Olivia De Jane was my cousin. She was the daughter of Michael Di Geno and his wife Lena . She had a sister Frances ( Fannie) Scialo. Olivia pursued a career  as a classical singer and lived in Europe. She was known in the family as an artistic free spirit. When she made her occasional visits to the New York area, I , as a child, would see her during her visits to her sister.  She recognized and supported my artistic bent much to the confusion of the rest of my family. I have lived my life as a visual artist, professor of Fine Arts. Olivia's  support of what came naturally to me helped me on my path. Thank you my dear cousin.

An accomplished and very brilliant musician and teacher of life. I will never forget her support and her appreciation of my work and my possibility. She loved music to her soul. God bless and keep you Madame. Your memory is a blessing.

June, 2016. I was thinking of Ms. De Jane today as I have, often over the years, and just found her obituary. I think she wanted me to know so I could finally give my school experience a rest. She was my French teacher, 9th grade at Le Conte jr. high and she told another class that she was giving me an F. A boy boy told me in the hall, and said I should talk to her so I went to see her and she said she'd give me a D only if I went to summer school at HHS. I will add her to Find a Grave along with all my other ancestors. What I didn't know back then, but found out while searching for my ancestors, that my ancestors were Joris and Catalina Rapalje from Valenciennes, France, who were from famous silk weaving families. They came to New Netherlands (New York) in the early 1600's. Their daughter Sarah Rapalje was the first European woman born in New Netherlands (New York) You can read my story on the internet. Sorry to hear about my cousin's passing. She was the  daughter of my Aunt Lena  and  Uncle Mike. Aunt Lena was my dad 'sister. In recent years we corresponded. She seemed so full of energy and loved Hawaii. She was the oldest surviving member of our family.

Miss de Jane was my English and French teacher at Hollywood High School.  She set high expectations and provided the learning tools for young students to succeed in their studies and life.  I am proud to have been one of her students.  I still treasure a copy of the book Cyrano de Bergerac (en Francais) that she gave me as a young, impressionable student.  May you rest in peace Miss de Jane and know that you taught life lessons to many.  Malhalo.

I knew her as a teacher at Le Conte Junior High School in Hollywood, CA. and also at Hollywood High School.  She was strict in her teaching but was also very caring and sharing of herself and her knowledge. She was one kind Lady with a big heart.
