With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Patricio Honrubia Ben, a devoted husband, father, brother and friend, who passed away from traumatic brain injury on June 07, 2025, at the age of 70.
Born on April 06, 1955, in Nancamaliran East, Urdaneta, Pangasinan, Philippines. Patricio, affectionately known as "Dad" to his children and "Manong" to many, came to Oahu, Hawai'i in his 30's to begin a new chapter of life rooted in love, hard work, and service to others. He built a meaningful life as a retired roofer with Roofers Union Local 221, and brought joy into every spaces he entered ; with the same hands that laid down roofs, he built a home filled with laughter, music and care.
Patricio was a man of peace, known for his quiet strength and gentle wisdom. He led his family not with loudness, but with presence, love and steady encouragement. A proud and passionate drummer, he carried the rhythm of life with joy ; once playing in a band in the Philippines, and later in Hawai'i where he never stopped drumming when music played. Even without a drum set, his drumsticks and spirit kept the beat alive.
A deeply thoughtful and spirited soul, Dad often shared stories from the bible and from his own life weaving lessons with warmth, and humor. He often reminded us, "You can't bring money to heaven," teaching us that true wealth lies in love, family, and living simply. His daily words, "Take care," were more than a phrase ; they were a reminder of his constant love.
He had a gift for lifting others ; making people laugh, lighting up rooms, comforting in silence, and befriending strangers as if they were family. He found joy in the little things : tending to his 30 blooming orchids, fixing things around the house, snacking on sweets, checking groceries with childlike excitement, and sharing stories from his youth.
Patricio is survived by his loving wife, his seven beloved children, and five cherished siblings ; one older sister, one younger brother, and three younger sisters. He was the heart of his family, the protector of their peace, and the keeper of their joy.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on July 06, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM, at Borthwick Mortuary, 1330 Maunakea St, Honolulu, HI 96817
We carry your rhythm with us, Dad. Your light, your lessons, and love will live on.
