Paul-as he was best known-was born March 29, 1955 to Iosia and Peleise Tailele Nunu near the village of Fitiuta, on the island of Manu'a, American Samoa. He moved to Oahu with his family when he was 13, graduating from Kahuku High School in 1973 where he was a standout athlete in football and wrestling. Proudly a "Red Raider for Life" he was best known for his football career at The University of Wyoming. A quote from their athletic department:
His performance in the game versus New Mexico earned him Sports Illustrated Player of the Week Honors. Paul helped lead Wyoming to a 1976 WAC Co-Championship with BYU. He was considered one of the forerunners to what would become known as The Polynesian Pipeline-a consistent stream of Polynesian players in college and professional American football.
Paul worked a number of years for Windward Toyota and later for American Income Life. He lastly spent time tending the family farm in Hauula. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing as well as golfing with his local golf club, Hui Hauoli.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Ragan Nunu, sisters Leafaitulagi Nunu Lealao and Fuatino Nunu Faitala.
He is survived by his sister Lurline "Nini" Nunu Arp (Adolf) of Laie, brother Iosia Nunu, Jr of Laie, sister Grace Nunu Alaiasa (Kalili) of Laie, son Zak Nunu of Cheyenne, WY, daughter Keli Turkall (Joe) of Key West, FL, granddaughter Mia Buranamontri of Pleasanton, CA, grandson Sam Buranamontri of Las Vegas, NV, grandson Jody Turkall and granddaughter Johanna Turkall of Key West, FL, grandson Jakob Nunu and granddaughter Aleah Nunu of Cheyenne, WY, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 1, 2026; Public Visitation 10:00 am; Bishop's Services 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Laie Hawai’i Stake Center 55-415 Iosepa Street, Laie, HI 96762
