We have such fond memories of Mr. Nahoopii as counselor and swim coach.  He had that perfect blend of humor and disciplinarian.  When he spoke everyone listened.  Definitely a role model to so many of us. My deepest condolences to the Nahoopii family.

To the family of Mr. Nahoopii,
I was a student at Kalani High School and remember your husband and dad very well.  He was a teacher and counselor who could relate to us kids so well.  Teenage times are difficult and he helped many of us with not only our academics but real life situations -- and he made it fun.  I have many happy memories of him as he inspired us and lead us in the right direction.  May your memories help you through this time of loss.
I also wanted to say hello to Daniel, who I haven't seen for years.  I am the mom of his friend John Rosa.

I was saddened to read of the passing of my favorite high school counselor, Mr. Nahoopii.  I have great memories of him, of times that I needed to talk to him about disciplinary actions, attendance, college applications, etc.  He was funny, very serious and sometimes I could not tell if he was joking or not. I did know this, he was always on my side looking out for my welfare. He was a great role model for me. 

This is what became of me after leaving Kalani High School, the graduating class of 1967, the only class that graduated in the gym. We started tradition and ended it the same year. I graduated in education with a BA and MA degree in Educational Administration and worked in the private sector. My highest level of achievement was a School Principal at St. Andrew's Priory in Honolulu, I headed the Elementary School. I am now a Professor, at Heald College, teaching Public Speaking, Professional Development, and Success classes. I was also a Professor teaching online with National University, specializing in Cultural Diversity, for Master's Degree candidates.  My public school education was a great experience and because of great people like your father, Mr. Nahoopii, and other teachers at Kalani and other school, this lead me to my career in education.  I only wished that they had informed me of the low salaries I would be making, I may have deferred to another career. I'm sure that Mr. Nahoopii was a dedicated person that never thought about his pay...and because of his dedication, he drove me toward excellence in educating students also.

My deepest condolence to all of you. I will try to be at the service but I am teaching and may not be able to attend. My thoughts and prayers will be with all of you on Friday and I send all of my thank yous to Mr. Nahoopii as he ascends into the next world.

Dear Bertha and Ohana,

We met a few years ago, I am Linda Oba, widow of Joe Oba.  I wish to express my deepest condolences to you and your children and family.
Joe Oba was so fond of you and Sam and told me many stories of your years shared at UHM.  We all had a chance to meet four years ago at Kala Kekuewa's memorial at the Elks Club.  That was Joe's last real public or social outing and how absolutely wonderful that he was able to visit with you and Sam for a time that day.  He was thrilled to see you and spoke about your time that day in the days to come.
