Samuel "Sam" Taketo Sarae, a beloved and cherished member of the Honolulu community, passed away on December 18, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on November 25, 1941, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Sam was a devoted and faithful individual who was known for his hard-working nature.
Sam is survived by his loving wife, Jane Sarae, and his devoted daughter, Cheri Hidano, along with her husband, Davin Hidano. He also leaves behind his sister, Shirley McMahon, and brother, Robert Sarae. His legacy continues through his grand-daughters, Kaylin Hidano and Sayge Hidano. Sam was preceded in death by his father, Tsuruichi Sarae, his mother, Kazue Sarae, and his brother, Brian Sarae.
He served in the United States Air Force and retired as a Staff Sergeant. Following his military career he continued working with the Air Force as a civilian employed by the Department of Defense until retiring from his position. He went on to work with the State of Hawaii Department of Human Services where he retired after 10 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and golfing when he had the opportunity. Sam will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.
Sam will be dearly missed by his family and friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
