

Shanon Hanalei “Kush” Hopeau, age 53, of Kapolei, Hawaii gained his angel wings and entered into the presence of the Lord on February 14, 2024. Born on June 26, 1970 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Maxwell and Linda Hopeau, Shanon alongside his two sisters Lisa and Angel resided in Waianae. He attended Ewa Beach Elementary and Waianae Intermediate then went on to graduate from Waianae High School in 1988.
While in school, Shanon started his career at Mountain View Dairy as a utility worker. From there, Shanon went on to be an equipment operator at Ko ‘Olina Golf Club before working for the City and County of Honolulu where he held several titles, some of which included; Labor, Mason, Heavy Equipment Operator, and Truck Driver. Shanon worked for the City and County of Honolulu for 27 years and retired in 2019. Being the hard worker that he is, Shanon went on to work for the Department of Defense as a Plumber.
In 1995, Shanon met the love of his life Sheryl Arevalo and they married in 1996. In 1995 they had their first son, Shanon who passed away at birth. In 1997 they welcomed their daughter, Shandy. Also, in 1997 they had Sydney who passed away at birth. In 1998 they had Shandon and in 2004 they had their last child, Shelby. Shanon was very proud of his children and their accomplishments. Shandy went on to run a floral company, Shandon played professional soccer for the Seattle Sounders, and Shelby is currently attending college on a scholarship. When Shanon was not working, you would find him at home, watching his kids play soccer, or having a few beers with family and friends. In 2021 he welcomed his first grandchild, Sianna-Lei.
Shanon was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and everyone’s friend. He is the true definition of a “Humble Hawaiian”. Shanon will truly be missed and will forever be remembered for his hard work, generosity, his genuine love for everyone, and the protector of his family.
Services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 at Borthwick Mortuary at 4:00PM for public viewing. Service will begin at 6:00PM.
Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Convoy to begin at 11:00 AM in Kapolei. Meet point will be at the corner of Kaiau Avenue and Owakalena Street. Convoy will end at Waikomo Beach Park at 12:00 PM followed by the scattering of ashes.
Celebration to follow at Nanakuli Ranch.
