

Susan Sanae Hagiwara, 75, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026. Born in Honolulu to Sadao and Sally Takahashi, the eldest of three with twin brothers Alan and Isaac (deceased). Also survived by nephews Rance, Ralen, and Micah; niece Chelsee; grand-nephew Louie; and life partner Roger Takabayashi.
An educator for 35 years, Susan taught at Jefferson, Manana, and Palisades Elementary Schools, and Highlands Intermediate School. She also worked at the Department of Education's state and district offices and retired from Aiea High School in 2007. Full of kindness and dedication, she was joyful and vibrant throughout her life.
A celebration of life will be held at Borthwick Mortuary on October 19, 2026, Visitation 4:00/5:00 PM, Service 5:00 PM.
As an educator of children with special needs, Susan would be grateful to those wishing to honor her memory to consider donating to the Hawaii Education Association's "Susan Hagiwara Special Education Teacher Micro Grant." Your generosity will help continue Susan's passion for supporting students with special needs and will make a lasting difference in the lives of students and educators for years to come.
