Tamaleilua Setima Langkilde

Tamaleilua S. Toomalatai Langkilde, lovingly known as “Tina” by her family and friends, lived a life defined by strength, compassion, love, and unwavering dedication to those around her.

Tina was born in American Samoa to her late parents, Setima Feilo Uila and Lusia Lafitaga Uila. She was the seventh oldest of thirteen siblings. Tina was raised in Leone, American Samoa, and later grew up in Hawaii, where she received her education.

She began her education at Maili Elementary School, continued to Waipahu Intermediate School, and attended Waipahu High School, graduating in 1979. While attending Waipahu High School, Tina began working at Pearl Harbor Social Services during her ninth-grade year. She continued working there throughout her high school years and until graduation. Beginning her career at such a young age reflected her strong work ethic, sense of responsibility, and willingness to serve others - qualities that would remain with her throughout her life and set a meaningful example for her younger siblings.

After high school, Tina continued her education at Cannon Business College, where she further developed her knowledge and skills.

Tina met the love of her life, Utusia Paepaega Toomalatai Langkilde, in Hawaii. The two were married on April 28, 1984, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waipahu, Hawaii. In honoring their parents’ wishes, Tina and her husband returned to Leone, American Samoa, where she devoted herself to caring for and supporting her family. This was a responsibility she embraced faithfully and carried throughout her life.

Tina was deeply devoted to her family, including Foiala Tuiteleapaga, and was a faithful member of Holy Cross Parish in Leone. Her faith, family, and community were at the center of her life. She actively participated in village, church, and family events and remained committed to fulfilling her responsibilities to her family, especially in honoring the wishes and legacy of her late parents.

Tina later continued her career in service through the Department of Human and Social Services in American Samoa. Her dedication to helping others reflected the caring and compassionate person she was. From a young age, she understood the value of hard work, responsibility, service, and giving back to her community.

Above all, Tina cherished her family. She was a source of love, strength, comfort, wisdom, and laughter. She had a beautiful spirit and a generous heart, and she possessed a special way of making the people around her feel cared for and loved.

Tina is survived by her three children and two grandchildren, along with her siblings, extended family, and many friends whose lives she touched.

Her passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot fully express. Yet the love she gave, the sacrifices she made, the lessons she taught, and the memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Her life was a blessing.

Her memory is a treasure.

Her love will live on through her family and all those whose lives she touched.

Forever loved.
