

TING CHUNG ”ROBERT” HSIAO, 76, of Honolulu, died March 5, 2011, born in Canton, China. He was the executive secretary for the Chinese Culture Service Center. Survived by his wife, Ling Fang ”Helen” Hsiao; sons, Yaotsu “James” Hsiao and David Hsiao; brothers, Ting Huan Hsiao and Ting Mou Hsiao; sister, Min Tzu ”Alice” Budnick. Visitation 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Sunday (March 20) Borthwick Mortuary, Makai Chapel; service 11:00 a.m. with cremation to follow. Aloha attire. Arrangement under Borthwick Mortuary Honolulu, Hawaii.

ABOUT MR. TING CHUNG “ROBERT” HSIAO
Ting Chung “Robert” Hsiao passed away peacefully on March 5, 2011 in the presence of his family in Honolulu, Hawaii at the age of 76.
Born on January 13, 1935 in Canton, China, he was the eldest of seven in the family. In 1952, he moved to Macau and later settled in Taiwan. He graduated from National Taiwan Ocean University and spent most of his career working for the Department of Fisheries Management. On November 15, 1969, he married his true love, Ling Fang “Helen” and had two sons, James and David. To provide better opportunities for his children, he retired in May 1986 and immigrated with his family to Hawaii. He soon opened a small business “Loy’s Crackseed” in 1987 and ran it for more than 10 years. Beginning in 1988, he also served as the executive secretary for Chinese Culture Service Center and organized numerous cultural events there, including classes, seminars and exhibitions. The local Chinese community praised him for his tireless work and dedication to help long-time residents as well as new immigrants.
Robert was a devoted husband and father. He was always friendly, cheerful and approachable to everyone. He loved to travel, play golf and take photographs. He will be deeply missed for his unforgettable smile, his remarkable photos, and his outstanding contributions to preserve Hawaii’s Chinese heritage.
