She was born on October 10th, 1929, and was raised in Lumber Bridge, NC. She is predeceased by her parents Frank Byron Dunn and Nellie Bennett Dunn, her husband of over 50 years William David Norton Sr., and a granddaughter Kimberly Anne Mercer. She leaves behind her son William David Norton Jr.; her daughter Nellie Norton Mercer; a granddaughter Stephanie Gwynn Mercer; a grandson Connor Evan Norton; and her twin sister Annie Ruth Jackson.
When the twins were born at the family home in 1929, they were left in a wooden "shoebox" with no birth certificate because the doctor was sure they wouldn't live. Not only did they live, they thrived and have been the much beloved matriarchs of their families for many years. The doctor did eventually come back and make their birth certificates, and the rest is history.
Betty Lou loved her family and friends unconditionally and asked about them to the end.
Visitation for Betty will be at Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills, NC on Thursday Oct. 2nd from 5-7pm. The funeral will also be at Reeves the following Friday, Oct. 3rd, at 12:30pm. A procession will follow from the funeral home to Cumberland Memorial Gardens on Raeford Rd.
