A native of Coalwood, W.Va., he was a Marine Corps veteran who served his country from 1957 to 1988, when he retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He is survived by brothers, Otis and wife Jan of Hilliard, Ohio, Kenneth Mack and wife Jan of Marysville, Ohio, and Tex of Germany; sisters, Janice Slane and husband Ron of Columbus, Ohio, Dixie Dixon of Hilliard, and Patty Sue Glick and husband Lloyd of Phoenix; sons, Jeffrey and wife Julie of Tyrone, Ga., and Carlo of Fayetteville; daughter, Michelle Luther and husband Billy of Hope Mills; and four grandchildren; Thomas Martin, William Luther and Kaitlyn and Lindsay Welch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Lou Oma Blankenship; two brothers, Ed and Richard Blankenship.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013, at United Congregational Christian Church on North Main Street in Hope Mills. The family will receive friends at 1p.m., prior to service. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. David Canady officiating.
