Dunn, NC Mrs. Eloise Moore Morris, age 89, of 405 West A Street, Erwin passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her children on Thursday Evening, November 3, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Morris was born in Harnett County on June 26, 1927 the daughter of the late Frank & Nellie Moore and is preceded in death by her husband, Charles K. Morris. She is also preceded by her siblings, Gomalie Snyder, Lavennie Tripp, Douglas Moore, Rudolph Moore, Edward Moore, Carolyn Norvell, Louise Crawford, Evelyn Penn & Tommy Moore. Mrs. Morris was born one of ten siblings into a sharecropper family and as a young girl into her teenage years worked picking cotton, often over 200 lbs. a day. Among her earliest memories were seeing the family pigs under their house from the cracks in the floor of her room. She graduated from Erwin High School in Erwin, NC and became a registered nurse after receiving a nursing degree in Roanoke Rapids Nursing School. She retired as a nurse from Good Hope Hospital with over 30 years of service where she offered her craft to soothe those who were suffering. She prided herself on her nurse’s cap and helping those in need, often holding hands with those drawing their last breaths who would otherwise been alone. Away from work she was devout in her faith. She raised four children during a time when women had a difficult time even getting a checking account. Our mother liked to read, work in your yard, spend time with family, and take walks. Though quiet and reclusive and shy by nature she amassed a legion of those who adored her. Those who knew her are comforted knowing that an instant after drawing her last earthly breath she breathed her first heavenly breath. We also get a small last laugh knowing she would have never approved of us “bragging on her” like this in a newspaper. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, November 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerome Pope officiating. Burial will follow in Erwin Memorial Park. She is survived by: A Daughter: Katrina M. McCourt of Elm City, NC 3 Sons: Timothy C. Morris of Coats, NC; Arthur Lee Morris & Jesse F.
