Gary Thomas Thornton

Gary Thomas Thornton, age 69 of Erwin, died on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn.

Gary was born on August 16, 1951 in Harnett County the son of the late Junious Telford Thornton and Ruby Erlene Eason Thornton.

Gary worked for Perry Brothers in his early 20’s then went to work with Weyerhouser planting pine trees. In his later years in was a self-employed painter.

Four years ago Gary had a major change in his life after receiving God as his savior, he became a member of Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church in Dunn. He was described by many as a good Christian man that became a family man. He was always good hearted and kind to people and would give you the shirt off his back. He was a major UNC Tarheel Fan.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Casey Officiating.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years: Diane Hughes Thornton of the home.

Daughter: Christie Diann Thornton of Dunn, NC

Son: Tracy Wayne Barefoot of Dunn, NC

Sisters: Faye T. Guin of Dunn, NC and Ruby Carolyn Harris of Durham, NC

Grandchild: Taylor Barefoot and his beloved Dog: Carolina Tarheel Thornton of 4 years

There will be a visitation Wednesday, December 8, 2020 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church in Dunn. .
