H. Douglas Moore

Mr. H. Douglas Moore, 85, passed away Wednesday, April 30 at home surrounded by those whom he loved.  He was born December 12, 1928 in Harnett County, son of the late Frank Moore and Nellie Pearl Moore.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Ulysses Moore and Rudolph Moore, and four sisters, LeVenia Tripp, Gomalia Snyder, Evelyn Penn and Carolyn Norvell. Mr. Moore was a graduate of Erwin High School Class of 1948 where he served as senior class president and he attended East Carolina University School of Business.  After working a few years in Montana he came back to Erwin and worked on Fort Bragg as a Civil Engineer with the Department of Defense until his retirement.  Doug was a member of the Neill Stewart Lodge #556 in Erwin.  He was one of several who helped found and establish the town of Erwin, was on the Harnett County Economic Development Board, a past president and officer of the year for Rotary International, and was Jaycee of the Year in Erwin. Born with polio, a disease that was rampant in his youth, he lived with this crippling condition later becoming confined to a scooter.  As a boy, he has a difficult time walking and received free medical care and surgery at the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Greenville, SC which enabled him to walk.  For this reason, and at his request before his death, the family asks that in lieu of flowers to send donations in his honor to Dunn Shrine Club, c/o Tim Morris, PO Box 794, Erwin, NC 28339 or to the charity of your choice. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 3 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Beasley officiating.  Burial will follow with Masonic Rites in Erwin Memorial Park. Mr. Moore leaves behind two sisters, Eloise Morris and Louise Crawford both of Erwin.  In addition he leaves behind many other relatives and friends that have benefited from his generosity. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home and other times at the home.
