I served with Derrel in the 82nd Airborne Division and I am sadden to find out that he has passed. But knowing Derrel Musick, he lived a good life and made friends with the people he met. He and I often talked about our adventures in  the Red Hills of Alabama. My hometown is Florence and we often talked about, what else - Alabama Football. Most nights when we left work Derrel would say with a big wide grin that he was, "going home to listen to some good ole Dixie Musick.  I love that Dixie Musick" he would say.  Derrel was a good man and such a friend that I'm sure others are out there wondering where in the world is Derrel Music? I will do my best to let others know, our buddy has landed softly on the Final Drop Zone. May God continue to bless you...

Derrel, you are missed so much by so many people who's lives were changed  for the better just by knowing you. So many of those people may not have known you by name but they knew you by the kind of man you were. A  soldier, A man of honor, a defender of our country and a true American hero and friend. I was Derrel's 1SG when he went through Special Forces Training. Not only was he a fine NCO, but he was a good friend.

Derrel was a good friend, classmate,and fellow football player. It seems  now that with each loss of one of our classmates,that I feel I loose  an irreplaceable part of myself-----these classmates are those friends who helped define who we were and are today-- Derrel's loss is particularly painful-- my first thoughts coming to mind when I think of Derrel is seeing him in life -- going at it was he went at in football---Going at it all he had and with Gusto.
