I was very sadden to hear of my very dear brother-in-law of my first marriage into the Velez fam. my deepest sympathy. Hostian a great caring son,father & brother & Tio to all.  He had a sense of humor only those who loved him could understand & let him slide. A great laugh & presence whenever he entered a room, he enduced caring for others and expressed the action of LOVE. He was a blessing to me & Iam sure to all & many, definetly will forever linger in my heart I  a place of fondness & love.

My Brother Hostian Velez
Let me start by explaining who Hostian was and still is as he lives in our memories and hearts.
Hostian is the oldest of five children (four brothers, Hostian, Josue, Magdiel, David and one sister Raquel) 
I was the last one born, which he would call me Davey the Kid, we were 9 years and 6 months apart in age.  To this day everyone in the family calls me Davey, or Tio Davey, and now I have grand children whom never meet there Grand Uncle Hostian but I'm sure they too will call me Grandpa Davey. 
Our Father left the family around when I was born, and all I remember is Hostian being there as my older brother/father.
 I looked up to him as I was growing up.
He was the head of the family.
As I was going through the things one must go through when living life he was there.
High School, College, Marriage, Children being born, divorces 1 & 2 yeah  LOL  / He was there. 
Never putting me down but encouraging me forward.
When our family starting moving away from New York, him coming to North Carolina others to Arizona. We never lost touch, every chance I could I would vacation and spend time together.
My love of old classical movies comes from him. I remember in the beginning hating watching them, but he would explain them and would spend hours watching with him. His detail of the film industry is unbelievable. I noticed that I have past the same love on to my family.
One of our family's best memories is Thanksgiving which was the beginning of the holiday season.
So every visit I would make Hostian cook a Thanksgiving Dinner with all the fixings, no matter what time of the year it was Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter. He would say, where are we going to find a turkey, but we did every time.  It was our way of keeping  that family feeling alive.
If you knew Hostian, you knew he would cook from his heart.
Those were our special times. 
My last memory of him was on my last visit this past October, we went to Cracker Barrel in Dunn and his favorite waitress was not in, a new waitress took our order. She asked Hostian and Martha if I was there son and answer her with the following words.  I only wish I had a son like him, no he is my Kid Brother.   There it was Kid it was never going away. LOL
We would speak by phone weekly and would always end by saying goodbye and love you.
My life will never be the same but because of him I live my life with a smile.

Tio Austin, you will forever be in our hearts.  My condolences in this time of sorrow, just remember he is in a better place resting in peace with grandma in heaven. My love to Martha, Chrissy and the rest of the family.

Tio Hostian, I've seen pictures of you with my Grandpa and his other brother.  When I saw you guys together I thought you guys were the original godfathers!  You were the boss, the big Great Uncle, the best fisherman and the best hunter ever.  Even though I have never met you before I knew about you by hearing the stories from my grandfather because he talked about you I knew you were a kind person with a big heart.

Tio, their is so much to say and I wish I could pause time to be able to have a chance for you to meet my family. It's so hard to remember all but what has stood out was heading to Grandma's.  I was so little and thinking the stairs were never ending.  Not giving up because at the top I would see Grandma and my Tio with all those fishes. Such a magical sight for a child.  Always brings a smile to my face the many stories that have been shared.  Hearing stories of a cheeky, sassy, stubborn ( no doubt due to the Velez curse running through my veins) little girl version of Dennis the Menace.  To go back in time and have the chance for you to see the woman/mother that I have become.  Tio, you have honestly touched many hearts.  My father may not be one with deep words at times but he is my rock and my best friend.  Stubborn as  all us Velez kids could be, know there has been ups and downs but a journey worth looking into because my father wouldn't be the man that deep down inside he is without what you have helped him to be.  The news of losing you, has taken a piece of him with you.  Looking into his face you see all diffident emotions run through his eyes, it nearly brought me to my knees and took my breath away.  You have helped him more than has ever been said.  So many stories of you keeping him on the right path and pushing the boundaries, the big brother to tell him to shove off, you saved his life many of times.  Crazy adventures, good, bad, the shocking, belly rolling stories.  Your stories will always continue to be told.  Tio, you will always be in my heart and the heart of our family.

Loving memories of my special  Tio, brother, father, husband, friend, grandfather, movie critic, fisherman,  mobster, all around gentle giant . My Heart still aches in sadness. For what it meant to lose you. No one will ever know.
Although you can't be here with me, we're truly not apart until the final breath I take, you'll be living in my heart.  Dearest Tio to hear your voice and see your smile and just to sit and talk to you would be my dearest wish.

I'm very sorry for your loss. 
I'm David Velez's step son and I just wanted to share with you all my favorite memory of Hostian. I always loved going to his house for thanksgiving when he lived in New York it was always a great time. I remember him as a kind and generous man. He always was so enthusiastic and fun to be around. He will be missed and on behalf of everyone here with me in the Bronx we send our love, gratitude, and prayers.

Growing up, I've always heard about the story how you set my dad straight and got him back in school. So, when I was visiting New York at 15 for the first time since I was a baby; the first thing I said to myself when I saw you was "This old man is a monster, with bear paws for hands and jacked calves, my dad must have gotten a good whooping!" Also, that was the day I decided to never miss a leg day, can't let this old guy get me! On a serious note, without your guidance maybe my father wouldn't have been at the bank to meet my mother. Which also means that without you, I wouldn't be here today. Thank you Tio, an I love you! Right now, your probably busy hanging out with the big guy upstairs with a cold one and a fishing pole; but I know you will continue to watch over the family as you did here on earth and help us get rid of differences to become closer together, even if we are miles apart.

To Tio Hostian & Family, 

Unfortunately we didn't get the chance to know each other well. I just wanted to express how much your brother, Cheo loved you and will always love you. There were many times when he would tell us stories about how you both grew up very close and you had each other's back. He was always so happy when he shared the stories about you and how important you were to him.  This loss is very difficult for him because he cared for you deeply. We will be here for him and support him through this tragic time.  We know that you will have great company in heaven, your dear mother. We send the Velez family our prayers.
