

Born in California to Homer and May Gilman, Ila was the youngest of two children. Throughout her life, her steady faith and gracious spirit were evident in the way she cared for others.
Ila and Rick Cartwright were married November 12, 1955 in San Diego, California. In 1964, they moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina where Rick was stationed. Ila devoted herself to her family, raising five children and running a tight household with diligence and love. Her kindness was practical and constant, expressed in the everyday work of providing, guiding, and being present.
Ila was very talented and found joy in creating with her hands. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, smocking and scrapbooking– thoughtful pursuits that reflected her patience, care and the warmth she extended to those around her.
A long-time member of Manna Church, Ila remained faithful in worship and service. She supported not only the church, but also several missionaries, giving with a compassionate heart and a sincere desire to help others.
Ila was preceded in death by her husband, Rick Cartwright; her parents, Homer and May Gilman; and her brother, Terry Gilman. She is survived by her children, Richard Cartwright, Jr. (Suzanne), David Cartwright (Wanda), Laura Reites (John), Carrie Cowell (Jim), Tommy Cartwright, 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation with Family & Friends will be held at Reeves Funeral Home, 3308 N Main Street, Hope Mills, North Carolina, on June 18, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held at Manna Church, 5117 Cliffdale Road, Fayetteville, North Carolina, on June 19, 2026, at 1:30 pm.
Following the service, burial will take place at Cumberland Memorial Gardens, 4509 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, North Carolina, on June 19, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Manna Church Missions
