James was a soldier in the United States Army for 21 years, E9. Where he had 1 tour in Korea, 2 in Vietnam and 2 tours in Germany. James worked in the civil service, GS-11, for 20 years.
He is survived by Gudrun Monty, his wife, married for 59 years. Three daughters and son-in laws Lynn & Michael Averitt, Susan Oakes & Eddie Humphrey, Mary & Carl Wall. Four grandchildren and their spouses Christy Davis, Jamie & Chris West, Cameron & Jackie Averitt, Jackie & Zach Gayheart. Three great-grandchildren Brooke Averitt, Lacie West and Daxton Gayheart. Brother John Monty and his wife Roberta.
Memorial Services for James Monty will be held at St. Andrews United Methodist Church Tuesday, February 6 at 11:00 am with inurnment to follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
