James Powell

James Powell 63 born January 12, 1958, to the late Royal and Pearline Powell of Nash County, North Carolina. He transitioned from this life on June 25, 2021 at 5:05 p.m.at Cape Fear Medical Center, Fayetteville, North Carolina.

At an early age he joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Battleboro North Carolina. Later in life he moved his membership to Ebenezer Missionary Baptist, Rocky Mount North Carolina, under the leadership of Dr. Walker. He remained a member there until he joined the US Army in 1976 from which he retired in 2002. Upon retirement he joined New Life Bible Church in Fayetteville, NC under the leadership of Dr. McLauchlin.

He was educated in the Nash County school system and graduated from North Nash Senior High. He continued his education at Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA. and Campbell University, Buies Creek, NC where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Divinity.

He leaves his dedicated wife of 38 years to cherish his memories Michele D. Powell and children Nakisha Watson Floyd (Corey), Rickisha Smith-Powell (deceased), Anthony Taylor, Latoshia Taylor, April Taylor, Jamel Powell, Janel Powell, 14 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, sisters, Deloris Powell (deceased), Pauline Perry of Wilson, NC, Roy Powell Jr. (Phyllis) of Jersey City, NJ, Daisy Freer of Willingboro, NJ, Louise Powell of Battleboro, NC, Archie Powell (Phyllis) of El Paso, TX, Diane Cooper of Rocky Mount, NC, Clinton Powell (deceased) and Denice Powell of Rocky Mount, NC, 3 aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, loving relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service with full military honors will be held on Friday July 9, 2021 at 12 pm at Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills, North Carolina.
