So sorry for your loss. Eddie was in my grade at Home Park, and he lived across the street and up two houses from my family on State Street. We weren't in any classes together at O'Keefe so I lost contact with him after grammar school. I'm so glad to read the nice things written about him. God bless.

My brother Eddie...Oh I love you.  I remember you picking up Toni when I was 12 years old.  Loved you ever since.  You would come to pick Toni up and I would sneak around and ask if you two could take me somewhere and pick me up later.  You always said yes and Toni always wanted to break my neck.  You taught me what donuts where.  We would laugh like crazy and Toni would tell you to stop.  Then I remember after you two got married and let me go to Daytona with you and you said, "Mavis, if you don't quit walking like a duck, you will never get a boyfriend.  Then on the way home, it was pouring cats and dogs and I was crying and begging you to pull over and you was laughing like crazy and said, Mavis if I pull over, we will all drown.  And then the time we went to 6 flags when I was visiting and we rode the roller coaster 16 times and went around all day with those silly pins.  I never saw you with a frown, never, unless someone messed with your family.  And, you loved your family just as you never quit loving my family when there was a divorce.  That was not your style. Eddie, you were always a true brother to me.  You have etched a trail in my heart that will never go away......never.  What a special person with a heart of gold.  I will always have you in my heart and even as I sit here and cry over my loss, I remember things, and just like always, I start laughing.  Brother, rest in peace with your Father and I know we will laugh again in heaven, your adopted sister.................

My brother in all ways.  I met Eddie when I was a kid and Eddie and Toni started dating.  He would come to pick Toni up and I  would sneak around and ask Eddie if they could drop me off some place and pick me up later.  It was never a problem with Eddie, but Toni would want to break my neck.  I remember him doing donuts in this new GTO and Eddie and I laughing our heads off and Toni screaming for him to stop.  After they were married, they took a trip to Daytona and let me go.  Eddie told me, "Mavis if you don't stop walking like a duck, you will never get a boyfriend".  On this same trip, it was pouring cats and dogs on the way back to Atlanta.  I was crying and begging him to pull off the road.  He was cracking up laughing and telling me that if he pulled off we would all drown.  This man had the most wonderful smile and laugh in the world and I can honestly say that I don't remember him ever with a  frown on his face unless someone messed with those he loved.  After Eddie and Toni were married, nothing has torn our families a part - through thick and thin we have always remained family.  I went to Atlanta on business years ago and of course I stayed with the Spences'.  I remember another time that I visited Atlanta and Eddie and I went to Six Flags over GA.  We rode the roller coaster 16 times and we both kept 16 pins on our shirt all day.  Silly fun.  Eddie was the brother that I never had, but I can say that he was my brother in all ways and if just couldn't have been any better having him for a brother.  As I write about Eddie, I am laughing and crying, because when I write about him I so remember his wonderful laugh and still today it makes me laugh.  I cry for my loss.  Vicki had gotten Eddie a cell phone not long ago and he would call 3, 4 maybe 7 times a day.  Just to say, "I love you" and of course I expressed my love.  Then he would just say, "Gotta go, love you".  I am so grateful today for that phone.  Eddie, my brother, you etched a trail in my heart of so many wonderful memories and that trail can never be taken away.  Thank you for always loving and caring for my family just as we loved and cared for you.  Rest Eddie and we will see you soon.

No words can emphasize how wonderful Eddie was...I can honestly say that I never remember seeing him with a frown...Always showing those beautiful teeth when he laughed and oh how I loved his laugh. I am sitting here laughing and crying right now.  Remembering what a good soul he had.  I remember another time after I had moved to Texas and visited Atlanta and Eddie and I rode the roller coasters 16 times and we both put all 16 silly pins on our shirts. He always treated our family like his family and after Toni and Eddie married, we were family thereafter.  Vicki got Eddie a phone recently and he would call sometimes 3 or 4 times a day to say, "I love you" and then well, I got to go.  Eddie you etched a place in my heart that will never go away - a trail of all wonderful memories.  I thank God for putting you in my life all those years ago and I will never, never forget you.  My heart is breaking right now, but I know that you are resting and at peace today.  I love you my sweet brother.

I love how you and your Dad loved and cared for each other. Praying for you and your family. The pictures you shared are beautiful. I wish I would have met him, even though I heard his voice in the background for many years. We love you!

Jim Spence was one of the nicest and kindest people I have ever met. I worked with him for several years at Fort Bragg and never saw him without a smile and an offer to help. I am so glad he is out of pain now but I will miss him greatly.  My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
