

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Kimbel; his mother, Margaret Augusta Williams Kimbel, and his father, Paul Kenneth Kimbel, sister, Nancy Kimbel Pruitt; and brother, David Robert Kimbel. He is survived by his son, Joe Kimbel (Genny); two grandchildren, Nathan and Isabella of Yorktown, Virginia, brother, Bill Kimbel (Debbie) of Orange Park, Florida; sister Susan Kimbel Henderson (David) of Parkton, NC and brother, Steven Kimbel (Sheila) of Dayton, Ohio, and sister-in-law Sandra. The family would also like to thank his caregiver, Darlene Caride, for the loving dedication showed to Mickey.
Mickey was born on February 21,1945 in Fayetteville, NC. After World War II, as a baby, he and his family moved to Philadelphia, PA until 1957 when they returned to NC and resided at 1830 Middle Road in Eastover. He was a 1962 graduate of Central High School and a 1963 graduate of Fayetteville Technical Institute, (now FTCC), with an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. He was enrolled in the first High School Connections program which allowed him to attend high school classes in the morning and FTCC classes in the afternoon. With his degree he was employed in the electronic portion of outfitting the USS Enterprise in Norfolk, VA. While in Virginia, he joined the National Guard and continued to serve in the guard when he later returned to NC. He settled his family in Eastover and started working for Borden Chemical Company. When his father died in 1968, he joined his mother running Kimbel Poultry Farm. He was a volunteer fireman with Eastover Fire Department, was a farmer and later, returned to FTCC to receive a contractor’s license. He established his own business, Kimbel Construction Company, and was known for building high quality custom homes. He enjoyed all his different jobs as well as flying remote-controlled planes. Mickey was a hard worker who enjoyed life, people and a good joke. Mickey passed away peacefully at Whispering Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fayetteville.
His funeral services will be at Salem Methodist Church, Middle Rd Eastover, NC on January 12, 2025. Visitation at 2:00 and service will be at 3:00.
