Michael "Mike" Garrity, 77, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on July 4, 2025, with his wife and best friend, Cyndy, by his side. He was born on July 17, 1948, in Long Beach, California, to Herbert and May Garrity along with two sisters, Patricia and Ena.
Mike proudly dedicated his life to taking care of Soldiers. His commitment began with his own military service during the Vietnam War, where he served as a communications technician in the Americal Division. He was wounded in action and honorably medically discharged as a Promotable Private First Class, forever carrying with him the affection and understanding for those who serve.
Following his military career, Michael continued his devotion to Soldiers through a distinguished career with Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR). He rose through the ranks from a cook to a respected business manager, notably overseeing McKellar's Lodge on Fort Bragg, North Carolina. At McKellar's, Mike built a reputation for his unwavering dedication to the well-being and happiness of service members, a legacy he carried proudly into his retirement.
Anyone who knew Mike understood his deep love for fishing, his incredible talent for cooking, and his innate ability to make everyone around him feel happy and comfortable. He was a truly caring individual whose warmth will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
His greatest joys in life were his three children: Michelle Conti(Greg), Sean Garrity(GeAnne), and James Garrity(Ariel). He also cherished his role as a grandfather to four precious grandsons: Nicholas, Carson, Danny, and Brennan; and a loving brother to his sisters, Patricia and Ena. His witty humor, great hugs, and amazing generosity will be deeply missed.
A burial with Military Honors will take place on August 22nd, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 400 Murchison Road, Spring Lake, North Carolina 28390.
