

Robert Dare, known to friends as "Bob," of Orrum, North Carolina, passed away on August 16th, 2020 at the age of 74 years.
A native of Dayton, OH, Bob lived most of his life in the big city of Jacksonville, FL. After his retirement from the lab at U.S. Gypsum of Jacksonville, Bob decided he wanted to live the country life in his retirement years. So, he moved to the small town of Orrum, NC where he has resided for about the past 8 years.
in 1963 he joined the U.S. Navy serving 4 years during the Vietnam War at Guam. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and had an honorable discharge.
Bob worked for Walgreens and assisted in opening two stores. He also assembled motors for Delco Products, a division of GM at Dayton, OH. After leaving there, he carried life on the road as an owner/operator for Brown Transportation. Finally, Bob sold his truck and went to work for U.S. Gypsum in Jacksonville, FL, then to Houston, TX, then back to Jacksonville, FL. where he eventually retired from working in the lab.
He is survived by his 2nd wife of 28 years, Ruth; son John Dare (Sherry) and daughter Kathy (Will Stephens); 9 grandchildren, Kendall Dare, Ryan Dare, David Dare (Brittany), Kandis Dare, Bradley McCrory (Cigi), Katie Ussery, and Summer McCrory; and 7 great-grandchildren, Addison Dare, Dawson Dare, Haley Glattli, Brentlee Dare, Samantha Dare, Jaden Dare, and Dawson McCrory.
A Celebration of Bob's life will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at the Orrum Baptist Church--5255 Atkinson Rd, Orrum, NC, with Reverend Gary Henderson Officiating.
