Rosina Newton, a beloved and devoted woman, passed away peacefully on the evening of January 10, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born on April 6, 1934, to Willibald and Walburga Rauer in the Sudetenland, now known as the Czech Republic. Rosina endured the hardships of World War II with remarkable resilience and strength that shaped her life and character.
She was raised by her mother, a single parent, after the Nazis took her father, who was never seen again. Rosina, her mother, and her brother—then a toddler—settled in Bavaria. As a child, Rosina worked alongside her family, and together they built a home with their own hands, laying the foundation for the strength, determination, and independence that would define her life.
Rosina was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Newton; her grandson, Brian Engle; and her parents. She is survived by her loving children: Christa Engle and her husband Carl, Willie Newton and his wife Darlene, and Gudrun Weber and her husband Manfred. She was a proud grandmother to Candace Engle (Blake), Adam Engle (Cassie), Will Newton, Lindsey McCumber (Doug), Thomas Weber, and Gilbert Weber (Kirsten), and a cherished great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Willi Rauer, and his wife Elsa, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Rosina immigrated to the United States with her husband Albert, who served in the U.S. military, and devoted her life to her family. “Rosie,” as her friends lovingly called her, was a true powerhouse. She built her own business, homes, and lifestyle from the ground up. She loved gathering and entertaining family and friends, especially during the holidays. Her passions included music, dancing, gardening, and reading, and she was well known for her exceptional cooking—particularly her German dishes. She was also a captivating storyteller.
A woman of deep faith, Rosina was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Good Shepherd Catholic Church, where she was actively involved in multiple ministries. She lived her life guided by faith, love, and fearlessness. Her many achievements continue to inspire her family and stand as a testament to the remarkable woman she was. Rosina will forever be remembered with the same deep love and devotion she so freely gave to all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, located at 2844 Village Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28304, on February 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
